The film-maker has come on board EuropaCorp and Relativity’s mafia film in an official capacity after initially acting as a consultant before and during filming.

Luc Besson directs the story of a mafia family that relocates to France and soon return to their inimitable way of doing things. Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones, Dianna Agron and John D’Leo star.

Besson adapted the screenplay from Tonino Benacquista’s book Badfellas. Relativity will release Malavita in the US on Oct 18.

WME and manager Rick Yorn represented Scorsese in the deal.
