Michael Radford will direct Shirley MacLaine and Christopher Plummer in the English language remake of the Spanish-Argentinean hit Elsa & Fred.

The rom-com centres on an outgoing retiree who befriends a straight-laced widower who moves into her New Orleans apartment.

Radford and his Il Postino writing partner Anna Pavignano adapted the screenplay.

Principal photography is set to begin on Dec 3 and will shoot in New Orleans and Rome. Edward Saxon will produce with Nicolas Veinberg, Matthias Ehrenberg, Ricardo Kleinbaum and Jose Levy.

Cuatro Plus Films, Defiant Pictures, Rio Negro Producciones (Mex) and Media House Capital arranged financing.
