Toni Colette and Ioan Gruffud play a married couple grieving over the death of their son

Principal photography has begun on family drama Foster, starring Toni Collette and Ioan Gruffud.

Jonathan Newman has written and will direct the film about a married couple, who meet a young boy called Eli, whilst trying to get over the death of their own son. Anne Reid, Richard E Grant, Hayley Mills and newcomer Maurice Cole also star.

The film, which is due to shoot in London for six weeks, is a Reliance Big Pictures/Starlight Films production in association with Kintop Pictures, Bent Nail and Serendipity Films.

Deepak Nayer is producing, along with co-producers Alice Dawson and David Mutch. Nayar recently produced Newman’s Swinging With The Finkels, which stars Mandy Moore and Martin Freeman and will be released later this year.

Little Miss Sunshine actress Toni Collette said: “There is something special about Foster. I love the purity and humour it possesses. It’s about healing and hope and rediscovering the joy of one’s inner child. Who can’t relate to that?”
