The Estonian-born, London-based director, who was Oscar nominated for his short film The Confession, will begin shooting the heist thriller in Canada later this year.

Tanel Toom, who was nominated for the best live action short award at this year’s Oscars for The Confession, has signed on to direct heist thiller Black Ice.

British writer Sebastian Foster has written the script for the thriller about rival gangs arguing over a consignment of cocaine, which is set in a small town in Alaska.

Richard Johns & Rupert Jermyn are producing the film for London-based Corona Pictures. They are in currently in talks with Canadian co-producers. WME Entertainnent is packaging the film.

In active development, shooting is due to begin at the end of 2011 in Canada.
