The Documentary Company on board for Green Prince

The Documentary Company, launched by Sheryl Crown and Maggie Monteith last year to back feature docs with EIS funding, is expanding its slate.

The company has already backed two movies, Searching For Sugar Man (sold by Protagonist) and cricket project From The Ashes. Here in Cannes, Crown has now confirmed the company is set to work again with John Battsek of Passion Pictures and Simon Chinn of Red Box (the team behind Sugar Man) on new project The Green Prince.

The new film will be an Israel/German/UK coproduction that will be sold by Global Screen. The doc, likely to be controversial, tells the story of the young Palestinian Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of one of the founders of Hamas, who risked everything to become an Israeli spy.

Meanwhile, The Documentary Company is working with Tiger Lily on Chinese Whispers, a new feature doc about the lives of two women thrown into upheaval by the Chinese Cultural Revolution. The Doc outfit is also set to work with Rahman Bahrani on a new film about gold.

The company is also in talks to back a new doc with Dogwoof. Crown and Monteith aims to be involved in the making and financing of four films a year.
