New productions by France’s Christophe Ruggia, Germany’s Til Schweiger and Romania’s Adrian Sitaru stand out on Screenbase this week.

Today (August 6) sees the start of shooting on Christophe Ruggia’s third feature Dans La Tourmente about three childhood friends who are faced with conflicting interests in their adult lives. Mathilde Seigner, Clovis Cornillac and Yvan Attal will star in this film noir, scripted by Ruggia and produced by Bertrand Faivre for Le Petit Bureau.

The production also received co-production support from France 3 Cinema. Filming takes place in Marseille and Paris and is due to finish in October. Wild Bunch handles both international sales and distribution.

Kokowääh is the title of the new film by German producer, director and actor Til Schweiger (Inglorious Basterds, Keinohrhasen), which he is currently shooting in Berlin and Potsdam. Schweiger is co-producing with Tom Zickler, Willi Geike and Bela Jarzyk for Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany.

The comedy centres on a luckless screenwriter whose life is turned upside down when an 8-year-old girl knocks on his door, claiming to be his daughter from one of his past one-night-stands. Together with his daughter Emma Tiger (who had a small part in Keinohrhasen), Schweiger heads the cast and directs from his own script, which he co-wrote with Jarzyk.

Meret Becker, Jasmin Gerat and Samuel Finzi also star. Shooting is scheduled to wrap in September for a February 2011 release, with Warner Bros. Germany distributing.

Romanian Adrian Sitaru is preparing for the shoot of the follow up to his award-winning debut Hooked. From Love With Best Intentions will commence shooting in early September in Bucharest. The $990,000 Romanian-Hungarian-French co-production is being jointly produced by Movie Partners In Motion Film, HiFilm, 4 Proof Film and Cor Leonis Films Ltd. Sitaru wrote the screenplay about a successful young man who goes through a painful process when confronted by the unexpected illness of his mother. No cast has been disclosed yet, but the provisional release date is set for autumn 2011.
