Italian film Manual For Love 3, French-Belgian-Swiss co-production Last Winter and a German-produced adaption of Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer feature on screenbase this week.

Manual For Love 3 | Manuale D’Amore 3 is the latest instalment by director/writer Giovanni Veronesi. As its two predecessors, the romantic comedy-drama is built around four loosely connected love stories, with Robert de Niro heading the cast in one of them. The film will start shooting on September 24 at Cinecittà, near Rome. Aurelio De Laurentiis produces for Filmauro, which will also handle distribution in Italy. In late August the Cinecittà studios will also be one of the shooting locations forUn Eté Brulant, starring Monica Bellucci, Louis Garrel and Grégory Fitoussi.

Cinecittà was recently host to another Italian feature, which was shooting there up until last month: Amici Miei – Come Tutto Ebbe Inizio, a comedy about a group of friends in Florence in 1400, in the court of Lorenzo de Medici. Neri Parenti directed from a script by Fausto Brizzi and Marco Martani. The film stars Michele Placido, Christian De Sica, Massimo Ghini, Alessandro Benvenuti and Giorgio Panariello. Produced and distributed by Filmauro the film is expected to be released in Italy in 2011.

Tarantula, Silex Films and PCT Cinéma & Télévision team up for the drama Last Winter, about a farmer who slowly descends into madness. Judith Nora, Joseph Rouschop, Priscilla Bertin, Elisa Larrière and Pierre-André Thiebaud will produce. The film is due to start shooting in France on October 25, lasting until December 10, with Vincent Rothiers, Florence Loiret Caille, Aurore Clément, Michel Subor and Anaïs Demoustier starring. John Shank, who will direct, wrote the screenplay with Vincent Poymiro. Cineart will release in Belgium with a provisional date set for May 2011, in time for Cannes.

Heike Makatsch and Benno Fuermann will head the cast for a German-language adaptation of Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, currently titled Tom Sawyer. Casting for the lead actor to play Tom Sawyer is still underway. Sebastian Wehlings (Rock It), Sascha Arango and Per Klehmet wrote the screenplay and Hermine Huntgeburth (Effie Briest) will direct.

Shooting will take place at the end of August in Germany and Romania, standing in for the Mississippi river area where the book is set originally. Boris Schoenfelder and Benjamin Herrmann produce for Neue Schönhauser Filmproduktion and Majestic Filmproduktion respectively and the latter will also release the adventure in Germany. International sales are handled by Beta Cinema.
