Stanley Tucci will play Dr Abraham Erskine in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The First Avenger.

In the comic books, Erskine was the German scientist behind the top secret experiment Project Rebirth that created the super soldier known as Captain America.

Chris Evans will star as Captain America and the cast includes Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, and Hayley Atwell. Joe Johnston will direct from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce and Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel and Louis D’Esposito are on board as executive producers. Paramount will distribute in the US on July 22, 2011.

Tucci is represented by CAA and will next be seen in the upcoming comedy Easy A as well as the musical Burlesque.
