Director set to cast her Cairo Time lead Alexander Siddig in her follow-up project.
Cairo Time director Ruba Nadda is prepping her follow-up project and is hoping to shoot in Jordan this summer.
Alexander Siddig, who starred in Cairo Time, is in the frame for the lead role in the untitled thriller.
The Canada-Germany co-production will be produced by Daniel Iron of Toronto-based Foundry Films, producers on Cairo Time, alongside Christine Ruppert of Cologne-based Tatfilm.
Foundry’s other credits include the Canada-South Africa co-production The Bang Bang Club and Sarah Polley’s Away From Her.
Iron said the budget would be in the region of $5.8m-$6.8m (C$6m-C$7m) and added that Telefilm Canada has been involved from development through to packaging. Alliance Films will distribute in Canada. Iron is in negotiation on an international sales pact.
Conceived and scripted by Nadda, the story follows a Syrian man living in Canada who returns to his native country following the disappearance of his journalist daughter. Once there, his own murky past comes back to haunt him.
Foundry is also backing Pig Tale, an animated film from Rhinoceros Eyesdirector Aaron Woodley and Iron is currently seeking a European co-producer for the project.
Meanwhile, Iron also told ScreenDaily that he is no longer involved with the Kevin Lucas project Owl Song.
