USC’s School Of Cinematic Arts (SCA) is partnering with digital studio New Form Digital, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer on a year-long programme to support, sponsor and distribute student film across digital platforms.

Chair of the School’s writing for screen and television division Jack Epps Jr and chair of the film & television production division Michael Fink direct the programme for the school.

New Form CCO Kathleen Grace, entertainment attorney Craig Jacobson, former Tribune Broadcasting president Ed Wilson, former William Morris chief Jim Wiatt and CAA and Imagine co-chairman Michael Rosenberg direct from the studio side.

“This programme is an experiment that we cannot wait to begin,” said Epps and Fink. “We’re excited that New Form is enabling us to offer our students this unique experience, which moves the academic arena closer to the real world experience of working with industry professionals in creating content for various distribution platforms.”

The initiative will run during the 2014-15 academic year and admit 15 to 20 students working in two-person teams.

SCA professors David Goetsch and David Isaacs will instruct the writing classes and Sean Mullin the production class, with New Form contributing expertise and visiting lecturers.

The student teams will develop and pitch their projects at the end of the first semester to SCA faculty and New Form executives.

Three selections will move forward to development and get produced as web series in the second semester. New Form will evaluate the content and oversee distribution via digital platforms.

  • Kodak and the University Film And Video Foundation (UFVF) have announced the recipients of the 2014 Kodak Student Scholarship Awards and Kodak Student Cinematography Scholarship Awards. Timothy Yeung from New York University’s Tisch School Of The Arts Asia in Singapore won the Gold Award for 90 Days; Dustin Brown from Santa Monica College in California earned the Silver Award for Solidarity; and Anton Moiseenko from the Russian State University of Cinematography won the Bronze Award for Celestial Bodies. Balaji Manohar from Tisch Asia won first place in the Kodak Student Cinematography Scholarship Award for Little Master.
