Gore Verbinski will direct Steve Carell in the untitled project for New Regency, the LA-based producer-financier riding high on the number one release of Gone Girl last weekend.

The project is the first in a multi-year deal between Verbinski’s Blind Wink New Regency and will commence production in March 2015.

Steve Conrad of The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty fame is writing the screenplay.

Following this, Verbinski will shoot two back-to-back projects for New Regency: the elevated horror A Cure For Wellness written by Revolutionary Road screenwriter Justin Haythe and Conrad’s action-comedy Passengers (working title).

New Regency’s dark comedy and recent Venice Film festival opener Birdman from Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu will open through Fox Searchlight on October 17.

Iñárritu is currently in production for New Regency on the revenge Western The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, scheduled to open in limited release through  Fox on December 25, 2015.

Verbinski’s credits include the first three Pirates Of The Caribbean films, Rango, The Ring and The Lone Ranger.
