The veteran British actor will receive the Peter J Owens Award for excellence in acting at the 57th San Francisco International Film Festival, set to run from April 24–May 8.

Irons will collect the award on May 1 and takes part in an on-stage conversation on April 30.

He won the Oscar for his portrayal of Claus von Bulow in Reversal Of Fortune and has starred in The Mission, Dead Ringers and the classic UK series Brideshead Revisited and Margin Call, among others.

“[Irons] embodies the international spirit that defines our festival, and the phenomenal work he has done on screens big and small is an inspiration,” said newly appointed San Francisco Film Society executive director Noah Cowan.

“We are thrilled to pay tribute to an actor whose range, depth and wonderful sense of humour have delighted lovers of world cinema for decades.”
