Sony has announced it has partnered with Dolby to expand its colour filtering 3D projection offering.

Designed to be used in conjunction with Sony’s SRX-R320 series 4K projector, the new Dolby 3D system will enable exhibitors to project a crosstalk-free clear 3D picture on any type of screening, including white, higher gain and silver screens.

Reusable 3D glasses will also be included in the Sony and Dolby 3D package.

David McIntosh, senior vice president, Sony Digital Cinema, commented: “Sony has been a long proponent of 3D, but we also believe it’s important to offer the industry – and cinema-goers – choice in how films are experienced. With our own offering and the Dolby solution, exhibitors now have the ability to pick a solution that best fits their needs depending on costs, licensing model and green credentials. We have worked with Dolby to listen to our customer’s needs and have come together to provide another solution.”

“We are thrilled to be working with Sony to bring the Dolby 3D experience to more audiences around the world. Movie-goers appreciate Dolby 3D’s pristine images and comfortable, eco-friendly Dolby 3D glasses, while exhibitors benefit from the cost-effectiveness and flexibility of the Dolby 3D any-screen solution,” added Doug Darrow, SVP Dolby Cinema.
