Disney reveals title of the next Star Wars movie.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

On the @DisneyPictures Twitter account, the message read: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens has completed principal photography. #TheForceAwakens #StarWarsVII”

The studio also confirmed that the film, directed by J.J. Abrams, has wrapped principal photography.

The film is produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Lucasfilm, and Bad Robot Productions and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

The seventh instalment in the Star Wars film series was co-written by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan, co-writer of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

The film stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, and Gwendoline Christie, with Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker reprising their roles from previous films.

Principal photography took place between May and November this year in Abu Dhabi and at the UK’s Pinewood Studios. Additional filming took place in Iceland.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is scheduled for release on December 18, 2015.
