The European Observatory’s Advisory Committee has elected Johannes Studinger as its new Chairman.

The meeting took place at the Council of Europe, of which the Observatory is part, in Strasbourg on March 26.

Studinger is head of UNI MEI, the media and entertainment sector of UNI Global Union, a global union federation, which represents labour unions and guilds and aims at ensuring justice and equality in the global economy.

Studinger said he looked forward to taking up the role “in an economic climate where employment figures and well adapted labour law should be regarded as key indicators for the success and development of the audiovisual industries in Europe.”

Susanne Nikoltchev, executive director of the Observatory, thanked outgoing chair Benoît Ginisty, director General of the FIAPF, for three “dynamic and productive years”.

The Observatory’s Advisory Committee is composed of 40 European or international organisations which represents all media industry professionals. It meets once a year in Strasbourg to advise the Observatory on the information needs of the media professionals it represents.
