Tribeca Film has acquired North American rights to multi-hyphenate Alex Karpovsky’s Rubberneck and Red Flag.

The company plans releases - including select theatrical and on demand in more than 40 million North American homes - for the films, both directed by and starring Karpovsky, in February 2013.

Rubberneck (pictured) which had its world premiere at this year’s Tribeca festival, is a character study co-written by Karpovsky and Garth Donovan. Red Flag is road trip comedy written by Karpovsky and starring him and Omar Tukel and Jennifer Prediger.

Karpovsky, one of the stars of HBO series Girls, has appeared in Tiny Furniture, Sleepwalk With Me and Beeswax and will be soon be seen in the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis. His previous films as a writer-director include Woodpecker and The Hole Story.

Geoffrey Gilmore, chief creative officer of Tribeca Enterprises, described Karpovsky as “a rare talent and we are delighted to be working with him and establishing a connection through the release of these two far-ranging films. Both films cover a spectrum of tones, life experiences and dramatic intensity that show Alex’s uniquely perceptive voice.”

Red Flag was produced by Michael Bowes and Rubberneck was produced by Bowes, Garth Donovan, and Adam Roffman.

The deal for Rubberneck was negotiated for Tribeca by Nick Savva, director of acquisitions, and Alison Diviney, manager of acquisitions; and for the film-makers by Nate Bolotin at XYZ Films.

The Red Flag deal was negotiated by Diviney on behalf of Tribeca and by Traction Media on behalf of the film-makers.
