Scandinavian-based international sales outfit NonStop Sales AB is to close at the end of March.

The decision was confirmed by Lidija Ilic, director of marketing and communication, Nordic, for NonStop’s parent company Turner Broadcasting System.

The reason given for the closure is that NonStop Sales “was not performing”.

The move will not affect NonStop Entertainment, the Stockholm-based distribution arm which has been performing up to expectations.

Ilic said that Turner had no plans to set up a new international sales outfit in the place of NonStop.

Michael Werner, sales director at NonStop Sales, was at the European Film Market in Berlin earlier this month, wrapping up final sales on the company’s slate while letting distributors know that the company was on the verge of closing.

Over the years, NonStop Sales has concentrated on “quality feature films with a commercial potential”. It has handled new titles as well as library titles including films from Swedish director Ingmar Bergman.

At the time of its closure, it represented 500 titles of all genres from more than 25 production companies in Scandinavia and around the world. It handled several cult kids’ movies including Moomins and the Comet Chase and Gnomes And Trolls.

NonStop’s films are now expected to revert back to their producers.

“There is no big drama here. There was just a review and it (NonStop Sales) didn’t perform and so we chose to close it down,” Ilic commented.
