‘Until Branches Bend’, ‘The Land Within’

Italy-based sales firm TVCO has acquired world sales rights to two new titles from the autumn-winter festival circuit.

The company has picked up Until Branches Bend, the debut feature of Canadian director Sophie Jarvis, which debuted in the Discovery section at Toronto International Film Festival last month.

Starring Grace Glowicki from Sundance 2021 title Strawberry Mansion and Riverdale’s Lochlyn Munro, the Canadian film follows a pregnant cannery worker who discovers what she believes to be an invasive insect in a peach and must convince her community about the danger it poses. Photon Films will be distributing the title in Canada; the film will make its market debut at next month’s American Film Market (AFM, November 1-6).

TVCO has also picked up Fisnik Maxville’s feature debut The Land Within, which will have its world premiere in the first feature section at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia next month.

In The Land Within, the exhumation of a mass grave in a village makes secrets from the past emerge along with the bodies.

The film stars Portrait Of A Lady On Fire actress Luana Bajrami, and is produced by Kosovo’s Ikone Studio and Switzerland’s Alva Film, which previously collaborated on 2021 Sundance winner and Kosovar Oscar entry Hive.

The Land Within has been through workshops including Berlinale Talents 2020, the 2019 Ateliers d’Angers, and the 2018 Agora Crossroads Thessaloniki, where it won the Arte Kino prize.

TVCO describes the titles as “psychological dramas [which] fall in line with TVCO’s keen focus on cross-genre arthouse films that aim to attract wider audiences”.
