Cornerhouse, the Manchester-based arts and film centre, plans to bring the best Spanish language films to the UK in March 2012 through the ¡Viva! Spanish and Latin American Film Festival, now in its 18th year.

The Spanish-language festival will feature Oscar Aibar’s comedic El Gran Vázquez, Agusti Villaronga’s Black Bread (Pa Negre), as well as other selections from San Sebastian, Berlinale and Cannes.

“The festival adds to the tapestry of cultural events taking place in the city. And most importantly, without the festival all but one or two of the films in the festival wouldn’t ever screen in the UK,” Rachel Hayward, Cornerhouse and ¡Viva! Festival Programme Manager, said.

Along with the films, an exhibition by the Mexican artist, Minerva Cuevas will be part of the event.

The festival will also continue with its language study sessions with events such as speakers, language programme sessions and film screenings.

The full programme will be released Nov 28.
