Film London has announced the shortlist for its Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) programme, which aims to encourage artist film-makers to become more ambitous in their work.  

11 artist film-makers have selected for the shortlist and will receive production development awards as well as mentoring. Of the 11 projects (which are all 20 minutes or longer), up to five will be selected for production, receiving financial support of up to £50,000 each to turn the concepts into realities.

Hilary Koob-Sassen – Frankenstein In Filletville/Songs Of The Swamp/The Syntax Octopus

Ursula Mayer – Gonda

Laure Prouvost – The Wanderer

Grace Schwindt – My Grandparents’ Tenant

Jennet Thomas – School Of Change

Eileen Simpson and Ben White – Auditory Learning (working title)

Emily Wardill – Fulll Firearms

Emma Wolukau-Wanambwa – A Film About Houses And Death

The scheme was created, according to Film London, as a result of feedback from artist film-makers looking to make more ambitious work. It also coincides with artists receiving mainstream recognition for film-making such as Sam Taylor-Wood for Nowhere Boy, Steve McQueen for Hunger in 2008 and Gillian Wearing with her first feature, Self Made, being selected to premiere at the BFI London Film Festival in October.

The scheme, which was launched in March and is backed by the Arts Council, has already greenlit five projects to date.
