Ryan Gosling thriller will be in competition in Cannes.

Icon Film Distribution has confirmed that it has taken UK rights to Nicolas Winding Refn’s Cannes-bound thriller Drive (sold by Affinity) and is revving up to release the film in the UK on September 23.

Drive, starring Ryan Gosling, has already been picked up for the US by FilmDistrict, who will be releasing it in the early autumn.

Gosling plays a Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a getaway driver. When a bank heist doesn’t go to plan, he is obliged to go on the run. There is a contract on his head and he has an ex-con’s girlfriend in the car for company. Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston and Christina Hendricks are also in the cast of the film, which secured a competition slot in Cannes earlier this m month. Hossein Amini adapted the screenplay from James Sallis’ novella.

Drive was produced by Marc Platt and Adam Siegel alongside Gigi Pritzker of OddLot Entertainment and Michel Litvak of Bold Films.

David Lancaster, Gary Michael Walters, Bill Lischak and Linda McDonough were executive producers.
