Authors competing for the Man Booker Prize are to feature in a live broadcast to Picturehouse, Cineworld and independent cinemas around the UK.

The ‘Prize Readings’ event will be held at London’s Southbank Centre on 15 October, the eve of the winner announcement, chaired by BBC Radio 4’s James Naughtie.

For the first time, booklovers around the UK will be able to view and participate in the shortlist event from local cinemas.

The Man Booker Prize for Fiction has partnered with Picturehouse Entertainment on the live satellite broadcast and audiences will be invited to contribute using Twitter, marking questions #ManBookerLive.

The event will see the writers read and discuss their work the night before the winner of the £50,000 prize is decided.

The shortlisted authors are:

  • Tan Twan Eng (The Garden of Evening Mists);
  • Deborah Levy (Swimming Home);
  • Hilary Mantel (Bring up the Bodies);
  • Alison Moore (The Lighthouse);
  • Will Self (Umbrella);
