Revolver pacts for investment from Farsi's Corniche

EXCLUSIVE: UK distributor and producer Revolver Entertainment has sold a significant minority stake in the company to Hani Farsi’s Corniche Pictures, the film division of Corniche Capital.

“We’ve been looking to grow for a while,” Revolver founder and CEO Justin Marciano told Screen. “They are a great partner. [The deal] gives us a cash injection and more opportunity for growth in a way we’ve never had before.”

He continued: “It’s our 15-year anniversary and we were looking at the market and how we want to move forward. We’ve had loads of approaches over the years. But having built it from the ground up, I only wanted to do it with someone who shared the vision.”

The deal includes investment in Revolver’s in-house production arm Gunslinger, which has produced films including Shank and Offender.

London-based Farsi becomes a director of Revolver. He said: “Revolver Entertainment is a company I have admired and respected for many years. I have followed their progress very keenly and hold Justin and his team in a very high regard for what they have achieved. Year on year their innovative and cost effective approach to distribution and production has made them a unique company with an incredible brand identity. I am truly excited to work with Justin and his team to continue their fine work, and assist in taking the company even further around the world.”

Corniche recently supported productions such as Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist, The Patience Stone, and feature documentary The Network.

Corniche is already an investor in Jean Labadie’s French distributor Le Pacte. Having a shared investor with Le Pacte won’t offer any formal ties but “it could present advantages for both of us,” Marciano says.

No immediate changes are planned at Revolver in terms of operations or staffing.

Corniche has also become an investor in Revolver’s VOD company FindWatchShare, which is also attracting other investors for international expansion.

Revolver, which has offices in London and Los Angeles, has recently seen success with its release of Sundance hit documentary The Imposter (which was acquired jointly with Picturehouse Entertainment). The company recently worked on its largest launch for Ben Drew’s iLL Manors, which was supported by Paramount.

Marciano remains the majority shareholder in the company.
