The pilot project aimed at fast tracking emerging filmmaking talent from the UK regions, is being developed with money from Creative England’s network fund.

Bristol based cinema Watershed is developing a new networking scheme, FilmWorks, aimed at connecting regional talent to the wider industry and audiences.

The networked professional development scheme will run September –December 2012 and is aimed at emerging filmmaking talent from the UK regions – both directors and producers –who are looking to develop a short or feature film project.

The aim is to fast track that regional talent to a national and international level through the programme.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in a ‘pitching’ session at three regional venue hubs – The Showroom Workstation in Sheffield, Broadway cinema in Nottingham and the Watershed in Bristol - involving the regional producer, a senior member of the venue’s creative team and an external industry practitioner.

FilmWorks will then select 45 filmmakers from the English regions (15 per venue) to take part in practice-oriented masterclasses and panels led by industry leaders, networking opportunities and linked screenings.

The project is supported by the National Lottery through the BFI and Creative England and is being co-produced by the Showroom and Broadway Cinemas.

“FilmWorks is a unique pilot project bringing together skills of producing and film exhibition. I’m looking forward to working with our partners to develop and introduce new regional talent to the wider industry.” Mark Cosgrove, Watershed, Head of Programme.
