Application links to the booking pages of major exhibitors.

Universal Pictures International has commissioned a new type of cinema showtimes application that links to the booking pages of major exhibitors.

The app has been implemented with conjunction with the release of the film adaptation of the hit musical Les Misérables. The new app follows similar builds for Ted and Pitch Perfect.

Designed and built by interactive content agency POWSTER in partnership with West World Media who syndicate local showtimes in 50 countries, the app is the first to utilise deep booking links provided by West World Media.

The Universal Showtimes app features deep links to specific booking pages for exhibitors. Audiences can search for showtimes at multiple cinemas, view the results on a map and then directly buy tickets for their chosen screenings at the cinema’s website.

It will work as an app on Facebook, an embed on a website or part of a banner advert. Its HTML5 design allows it to also work in a mobile or tablet browser.

Abi Smith, the digital project manager at Universal Pictures International, commented: “It’s great that we can now make it as easy as possible for fans to get tickets for the exact screening they want in just a few clicks. We’re hoping this app will really help drive Les Misérables ticket sales and make sure the film lives up to the huge expectations, not just in the UK but all over the world.”
