George Lucas was Hollywood’s highest male earner over the past year, racking up £170m between June 2008 and June this year, according to Forbes.com.

The list, which is dominated by film-makers rather than actors and actresses, put Steven Spielberg in second place, earning $150m over the period, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer in third place on $100m.

Lucas’s earnings were boosted by last year’s fourth Indiana Jones film, directed by Spielberg, which took just under $800m at the international box office. Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skullwas co-written by Lucas.

The film’s star, Harrison Ford, also made the list alongside Adam Sandler. It also featured film-maker and actor Tyler Perry, producer Dick Wolf and music svengali Simon Cowell.

The 15 men on the list, which also included comedian Jerry Seinfeld, made a total of $1.2bn over the past year.
