The distributor has acquired US rights from Visit Films to Sophia Takal’s second directorial feature.
Always Shine premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it won the award for best actress in a US Narrative Feature Film for Mackenzie Davis.
The film follows two friends on a trip to reconnect with each other only to be driven further apart when old jealousises bubble back to the surface.
Takal, Lawrence Michael Levine and Pierce Varous produced, and Visit Films is handling worldwide sales in Cannes.
- Submarine has boarded North American rights in Cannes to Sasha Waters Freyer’s documentary Garry Winogrand: All Things Are Photographable and is showing a promo to buyers. Wide House represents international rights.
- Meg Thomson has been named vice-president of worldwide content at Globalgate, the new local-language production company founded by Paul Presberger, William Pfeiffer, and Clifford Werber and affiliated to Lionsgate and a conbsortium of international distributors. Thomson previously served as managing director of Eccho Remakes.
- Jeffrey Godsick will join Sony on May 31 as executive vice-president of worldwide partnerships for the Motion Picture Group and will lead the global promotions strategy. Godsick most recently served as president of Fox Consumer Products at Twentieth Century Fox.
- Carla Juri has joined the cast of Alcon Entertainment’s Blade Runner seqquel starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks and Dave Bautista.
- K Street Pictures president Charles Agron announced the company has teamed up with Cobalt Pictures on the Lance Hendriksen psychological thriller Monday At 11:01 A.M. and has begun talks with buyers on the Croisette. Agron also stars.
