Alicia Vikander among cast to join Ewan McGregor in Julius Avery’s debut Son of a Gun.

Alicia Vikander, Brenton Thwaites and Jacek Koman have joined Ewan McGregor on Julius Avery’s debut feature Son of a Gun.

The heist thriller, centred on a complex relationship between Australia’s public enemy number one (McGregor) and his young protégé (Thwaites), will shoot in Perth and Kalgoorlie, Western Australia and Melbourne with principal photography to start in late February 2013.

Julius Avery makes his debut on his original screenplay, with Timothy White producing through Southern Light Films and Janelle Landers of WBMC co-producing. Aaron L. Gilbert of Media House Capital serves as executive producer, along with John Collee, Bryce Menzies, Michael Spiccia and Aidan O’Bryan.

Altitude Film Sales will be handling international sales at the EFM.

Hopscotch Entertainment One has acquired Australian and New Zealand rights, with UTA Independent Film Group representing the producers in the sale of North American rights.

Media House Capital is providing finance with production investment from Screen Australia, Screen NSW and ScreenWest.
