He takes over from Matthijs Wouter Knol, who is the new head of Berlin’s European Film Market.

Florian Weghorn has been appointed as programme manager of Berlinale Talents, the annual event which brings together 300 selected creatives from across the industry with experts and mentors.

Weghorn was formerly deputy head of the festival’s Generation section. Together with project manager Christine Tröstrum, he will be responsible for the general direction of Berlinale Talents going forward.

“Florian Weghorn brings his programming experience and knowledge of the festival to Berlinale Talents. We’re very happy that through him, the programming sections and our successful networking platform will be even more closely connected,” said Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick.

Weghorn studied theatre, film and television studies at the University of Cologne, before going on to work at the Berlinale, first as an assistant and since 2008 as the deputy head of Generation.

Applications for next year’s Berlinale Talents, which will run Feb 7-12, 2015, are now open, with the deadline set for September 1.
