Nu Boyana is today signing a cooperation agreement with Bulgaria's National Film Center on Balkan Beats, a Bulgarian-English language comedy.

Balkan Beats will be shot mainly in English with talent from Bulgaria and nearby Balkan countries. Director Zornitsa-Sophia previously wrote and directed the 2004 feature Milla From Mars, which won prizes at Sofia and Sarajevo and set box-office records in Bulgaria.

Nu Image is signing a separate contract with Bulgarian producer Bulgar Beats for worldwide distribution of the film, which starts shooting Aug. 25 in Turkey.

Per the Boyana studios purchase agreement Nu Image signed with Bulgarian Ministry of Culture, Nu Boyana is obliged to produce at least two Bulgarian films a year.

In Sofia, Nu Boyana is set to begin work on the Nu Image title Brilliant, a jewel heist thriller starring Scarlett Johansson. Director Jon Amiel (Sommersby, The Core) will begin principal photography June 6.
