Palm Pictures has picked up North American rights to Spanish director Julio Medem's drama Sex And Lucia (Lucia Y El Sexo), which recently screened in the World Cinema sidebar at Sundance.

The film is produced by Spain's Sogecine and is represented internationally by Sogepaq.

Medem's previous effort, 1999's The Lovers Of The Arctic Circle (Los Amantes Del Circulo Polar), also screened in Sundance where it was picked up for US distribution by Fine Line and was well-received upon release.

Lucia, which has already sold to most world territories, was the fourth highest grossing film in Spain last year and is nominated for 11 of the country's Oscar-equivalent Goya awards including best film, best director and best script.

Sogepaq also recently sold worldwide rights on Sogecine title Intact (Intacto) to Lions Gate Films and North American distribution on Vicente Aranda's Mad Love (Juana La Loca) to Sony Pictures Classics.
