Patrick Dempsey will star in an untitled heist comedy for Paul McGuigan based on a screenplay by The Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.

Mark Damon’s Foresight Unlimited is fully financing and will commence sales here this week on the project, which is set for an April 2010 start. Damon and Peter Safran are producing with Dempsey.

The story follows a man caught between two robberies that take place at the same bank at the same time who secretly plots to win the heart of a feisty bank teller.

“Jon and Scott’s screenplay is clever and yet deliriously funny, so it can be appreciated by critics and broad audiences alike,” Damon said. “Combined with Paul’s visual style and comedy sense, I think we have the kind of fun ride today’s audiences demand.”

Dempsey stars in the hit TV series Grey’s Anatomy and his feature credits include the global hits Enchanted and Sweet Home Alabama and will next be seen in Garry Marshall’s ensemble comedy Valentine’s Day.

Lucas and Moore are riding high following the $450m-plus global success of The Hangover, while McGuigan previously directed Gangster No. 1,Lucky Number Slevin, and Push.

Dempsey is represented by UTA, manager Joannie Burstein, and attorney Mitch Smelkinson. Lucas and Moore are represented by Greg McKnight at CAA and attorney Warren Dern.
