Ha Jung-woo to star in Lee’s melodrama And Us

Korean director Lee Yoon-ki has cast The Chaser star Ha Jung-woo and Sunny starlet Su Ae in his upcoming melodrama And Us (working title).

Ha Jung-woo previously starred in Lee’s Berlinale and Tribeca title My Dear Enemy, opposite Cannes best actress winner Jeon Do-yeon.

This year alone, Ha’s credits include roles in Hong Sang-soo’s recent Cannes Directors’ Fortnight title Like You Know It All, Kim Young-nam’s Korea-Japan smuggling drama Boat, opposite Japanese star Tsumabuki Satoshi, and the upcoming ski jump film Take Off.

In Lee’s upcoming film, Ha and Su play two people suffering from the scars of love lost. Communicating with each other, they heal and manage to find their way towards starting new love.

The original screenplay is written by Lee Sook-yeon, whose credits include Hur Jin-ho’s melodramas One Fine Day and Happiness. Budgeted at approximately $2m (KW2.5bn), the film is due to start shooting this month, with plans for a November release.

The film is produced by Blue Storm Co, whose credits include Kim Tae-yong’s Family Ties, and upstart producer Verdi Pictures. Michelle Son’s M-Line Distribution is handling international sales.
