Proud Mary Entertainment president Mary Aloe has been hired by Regent Releasing to source acquisitions for its existing $50m P&A fund.

The fund was established through Merrill Lynch to provide strategic print and advertising support for Regent's slate. Aloe is in Toronto to help find the initial slate.

'We are pleased to have one of the brightest independent producers to assist us on this fund,' chairman Stephen P Jarchow said. 'The mission of the fund is to broaden and diversify Regent's role in the independent film market and diversify Regent's existing distribution slate.'

'I see this alliance as a platinum opportunity,' Aloe said. 'We look forward to providing independent producers a voice in the theatrical marketplace.'

Among the films Aloe worked on as producer are Stuart Townsend's Toronto ensemble drama Battle In Seattle, thriller While She Was Out starring Kim Basinger and Lukas Haas, and thriller Tortured with Laurence Fishburne and James Cromwell.

Regent's previous releases include the drama Gods And Monsters, documentary The Hunting Of The President, and German drama Summer Storm (Sommersturm).
