The UK's Renaissance Films has boarded medieval murder mystery Morality Play and AM Home adaptation The Safety Of Objects.

Paul McGuigan, whose credits include Gangster No. 1 and Acid House, is to direct Morality, with Gangster's Paul Bettany starring as a renegade priest. Mark Mills has adapted the story from Barry Unsworth's novel. Caroline Wood will produce for Renaissance, with shooting scheduled from the autumn.

Bedrooms And Hallways' Rose Troche is to direct Safety, an East Coast-set ensemble tale of suburban angst that is to shoot in August. Bedrooms' Dorothy Berwin and Christine Vachon of the US' Killer Films will produce, while talks have been held with actors including Dermot Mulroney and Timothy Olyphant.

Renaissance co-chiefs Stephen Evans and Angus Finney are executive producing both projects.

Other titles on Renaissance's slate include Marleen Gorris' The Luzhin Defence, which makes its world premiere in Cannes, and Disco Pigs, which is currently shooting.
