I don't know why it's so surprising that a company working in Independent Film doesn't get to share in the upside of its work - it's the norm. The film recoupment model is totally broken. Too many middle men, too much commission, too many other businesses in between the content creators and the transaction at the box office. Why Film Business journalists don't more acutely analyse how badly the film-makers are treated, compared to their position in TV, is a constant mystery to me.
