Film London has announced that the first two completed features produced through its Microwave micro-budget film-making scheme have secured theatrical distribution.

Metrodome has acquired Eran Creevy's Shifty for the UK, Ireland and Eastern Europe (Romania, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Croatia, Slovak Republic and Slovenia). The urban thriller charts 24 hours in the life of an inner-city drug dealer.

Revolver Entertainment has picked up Steven Sheil's contemporary horror Mum & Dad for UK, Ireland and North American distribution.

'Securing distribution in the UK is always a challenge, as it's an expensive and risky territory,' Microwave production executive Mia Bays said. 'The fact that both films received several offers each is testimony to the clarity of their ambition and strong entertainment value.

'We are delighted to be working with two great distribution partners who can help guide the films to their audience in the most efficient way possible,' Bays said.

Launched by Film London in 2006, Microwave aims to make micro-budget feature films which combine creative scripts and talent with an entrepreneurial approach to produce a commercially-viable product.

Microwave challenges film-makers to shoot a full-length feature film for a budget not exceeding $184,000 (£100,000), including all cash and in-kind support. Film London can offer up to $138,000 (£75,000) per project in exceptional circumstances, though typically awards are in the region of $92,000 (£50,000).

Supported by Skillset and the BBC, the scheme provides an intensive approach to film-making with an emphasis on tightly focused scripts and short production schedules. The scheme includes mentoring from established industry professionals, including director Asif Kapadia (The Warrior), story editor Kate Leys (formerly of Film4) and producer-writer Peter Ettedgui (Kinky Boots).

Three further films are in pre-production: dark psychological thriller Analogue, to be directed by Suki Singh; Jes Benstock's Alternative Miss World documentary, The British Guide To Showing Off (working title); and Freestyle, a teen romance based around the world of freestyle basketball, to be directed by Kolton Lee.
