Organisers are planning a new festival in Rio, Cine Cufa, which will run September 4-16.

Non-profit group Central Unica das Favelas is planning the festival, based in the City Of God favela where Fernando Meirelles film of the same name was set.

The festival is set up 'with the purpose of expanding notions of cinema and who it is for' and to showcase features and documentries 'produced and directed by film-makers from the other side of the fence, coming out of the margins of social inclusion, peripheries from all over the world.'

London-based production and sales company One Eyed Films is curating the international programme. The Selection committee will include young students involved in CUFA courses as well as Brazilian notables including Caetano Veloso, Caca Diegues and Joel Zito.
