Roadside Attractions has picked up worldwide rights to Richard Wong's Colma: The Musical and plans a summer release in North America.

The musical comedy centres on three high school graduates who rebel against their mundane existence in the Northern California cemetery town of Colma.

Wong co-wrote the screenplay with HP Mendoza, who also stars alongside Jake Moreno and L A Renigen. Paul Kolsanoff, Angel Vasquez and Wong produced.

'This film is hugely entertaining,' Roadside Attractions co-president Eric d'Arbeloff, who negotiated the deal with Nguyen 'Wyn' Tran of The Institution, said.

'That someone can go out and make an accomplished, full-blown musical, on their own, is a giant evolution in independent film.'

Colma: The Musical premiered at the San Francisco International Asian-American Film Festival, and was nominated recently for the Independent Spirit's Someone To Watch Award, as well as the Gotham Award's Best Film Not Playing At a Theatre Near You.
