Seed Of Chucky, the fifth picture in the Child's Play franchise about berserk homicidal dolls, beganproduction in Romania yesterday (Mar 15).

It joins a growing list ofhorror pictures which are shooting in the country including the completed TheMethod and Blessed and upcoming productions Man With A Movie Camera directed by Bernard Rose for Capitol Films and Cave directed by Bruce Hunt for Lakeshore Entertainmentand Screen Gems.

Chucky franchise creator andthe writer on all five pictures Don Mancini makes his directorial debut on SeedOf Chucky while David Kirschner (SecondhandLions, Frailty) and producingpartner Corey Sienega (executive producer of Bride Of Chucky) will serve as producers.

Focus executive vicepresident of production Joe Pichirallo is overseeing the picture, which Focuswill release in North America over Halloween on Oct 29. Focus Internationalwill handle all worldwide sales.

Seed Of Chucky centres on Glen, the orphan doll offspring of thedemonic Chucky and Tiffany, who takes part in a Hollywood movie about hisparents and ends up bringing them back to life.

The Lord Of The Rings star Billy Boyd provides the voice for Glen whileBrad Dourif and Jennifer Tilly reprise their vocal roles as Chucky and Tiffany.Tilly will also play herself in the film, while legendary film-maker JohnWaters and hip-hop star Redman also star.

"We get a kick out ofChucky, and we're not scared to admit it," Focus co-presidents David Linde andJames Schamus said in a statement. "Don Mancini has come up with a very freshtake for the franchise and this Halloween, new viewers and longtime Chucky fansalike are in for bloody good fun."

Previous Chucky featureswere Child's Play (1988), Child'sPlay 2 (1990), Child's Play 3 (1991) and Bride Of Chucky (1998). The last three were produced and distributedby Focus' parent company Universal Pictures, with Good Machine International(which subsequently became Focus) handling overseas sales on Bride Of Chucky.
