Romania'sstate film funding body CNC it to contribute to the production of elevenfeatures and eleven shorts.

Sixof the features - funded with around Euros 200,000 each - are debuts andinclude Love Sick, byproducer-director Tudor Giurgiu. His previous works include the short film Popcorn Story, a former Berlinaleparticipant.

Love Sick is a coming-of-age storyabout three characters passionately in love with each other. The Libra Filmproduction also received funding from the Hubert Bals Fund and was alsoselected for the Cinelink market at the Sarajevo International Film Festival.

Anotherfeature debut to receive state support was Catalin Mitulescu's What I've Done During The End of the World.Mitulescu's previous short film, Traficwas welcomed by the film industry at this year's Cannes Film Festival andwalked away with the Palme D'Or for best short film.

Someconsiderable controversy followed the announcement of the results as initiallyGolden Bear winner Cristi Puiu's second feature received no funding from CNC.

Thesupport was later granted upon the intervention of Romania's cultural ministerRazvan Theodorescu. Puiu's project is TheDeath Of Mr. Lazarescu, the first film in his planned six-film series offables, Six Stories From The Bucharest Suburbs.The director, received this year's Golden Bear for his short film Cigarettes And Coffee.
