Ron Howard will receive the 20th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival's (PSIFF) Director's Lifetime Achievement Award on Jaunary 6.

Howard's latest film Frost/Nixon will open through Universal on December 5 and follows a long line of credits that includes A Beautiful Mind, which earned him the Oscar in 2001, The Da Vinci Code, Splash and Apollo 13. He is in post-production on his second Dan Brown adaptation after The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons.

The film-maker will also celebrate 50 years in entertainment after making his acting debut in 1959 opposite Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr in Anatole Litvak's The Journey.

'Frost /Nixon is yet another powerful film from one of the industry's true icons and can be included among the classics of Ron Howard's total body of work,' festival chairman Harold Matzner said.

PSIFF is scheduled to run from January 6-19.
