Principal photography began in Puerto Rico on March 25 on GK Films and Infinitum Nihil’s The Rum Diary starring Johnny Depp, Aaron Eckhart, Amber Heard and RichardJenkins.

Bruce Robinson is directing and adapted the screenplay based on Hunter S Thompson’s novel about an itinerant journalist who leaves New York and takes an job on a local Puerto Rico newspaper where he gets involved with a shady businessman’s fiancee.

The production marks the first film from Depp and Christi Dembrowski’s Infinitum Nihil. The partners will produce with Graham King, whose GK Films is fully financing. Anthony Rhulen and Robert Kravis are also producing

Robinson wrote and directed Withnail And I as well as How To Get Ahead In Advertising.

Infinitum Nihil was formed in 2004 and is developing Dark Shadows written by Tim Burton that will be produced with Graham King’s GK Films for Warner Bros, as well as The Invention Of Hugo Cabret to be directed by Chris Wedge and also produced with GK Films for Warner Bros, and Attica, adapted by Linda Woolverton and to be directed by Sam Fell.
