Ryan Phillippe, Abbie Cornish and Sean Bean have come on board Menno Meyjes' next film Last Battle Dreamer.

The $20m Viking epic adventure will shoot starting Nov 19 for eight weeks in the UK and Germany, backed by Future Films with Handmade Films International handling international sales.

Phillippe stars as Thorfinn, a 7th-century Viking warrior, who invades Britain with his brother (Bean), where they encounter a mysterious widow (Cornish), who Thorfinn falls in love with and must try to save.

'Last Battle Dreamer is a love story written in fire and blood,' says writer/director Meyjes. 'You need actors with larger than life talent to play those parts. Ryan, Abbie and Sean are those people.'

Albert Martinez Martin of Future Films is producing the English-language project, which is being set up as a UK-Germany co-production. He added: 'This is our second of what we hope will be many feature films with Menno at the helm. With such a magnificent cast and Menno's panoramic vision, it's exciting to be producing such an epic project.'

Director Meyjes is just finishing post-production on his bullfighter project Manolete, starring Adrien Brody and Penelope Cruz, also for Future. New Line releases Meyjes' Martian Child starring John Cusack in the US on Ocotber 26.

Phillippe, represented by David Guillod at UTA, is currently in London to start shooting the lead in Gerald McMorrow's Franklyn, replacing Ewan McGregor opposite Eva Green in the HanWay Films futuristic thriller.

Bean and Cornish are represented by Tracy Brennan and Hilda Queally at CAA.

Phillippe and Cornish also star together in Kimberly Pierce's forthcoming Stop Loss.

Future's other forthcoming productions include Bille August's Burden Of Desire and Malice in Sunderland starring Mischa Barton.
