Colin Firth, James Franco, Jeff Bridges, Annette Bening, Natalie Portman and Jennifer Lawrence are in contention for SAG awards, however Blue Valentine stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are the shock omissions.

The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations include Robert Duvall for his acclaimed performance in Getl Low and Hilary Swank, popular with the Guild, makes the cut for her role as Betty Anne Waters in Conviction. Once again Bardem is overlooked, as he was by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association earlier this week, for his performance in Biutiful.

The supporting categories include season favourites Christian Bale and Geoffrey Rush while John Hawkes is in for Winter’s Bone, possibly at the expense of The Social Network’s Golden Globe nominee Andrew Garfield. Jeremy Renner gets a nod for The Town.

Youngster Hailee Steinfeld, shut out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association earlier in the week, is among the contenders in the supporting actress category for True Grit, as are Golden Globe nominees Helena Bonham Carter for The King’s Speech, Mila Kunis for Black Swan and The Fighter duo of Melissa Leo and Amy Adams.

All the usual suspects are nominated for the ensemble award – The King’s Speech, The Social Network, The Fighter, Black Swan and The Kids Are All Right.

Final voting information for the entire membership of roughly 100,000 will be mailed via postcard on December 30. All votes must be received by January 28, 2011. The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be simulcast live nationally on TNT and TBS on January 30, 2011.
