New event joins existing festival initiatives aiming to create closer ties with Latin America

The San Sebastian International Film Festival has announced the launch of the first Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum, to take place September 27-28 at the festival’s 60th edition.

The forum aims to promote projects of greater magnitude and strengthen the European and Latin American industries by encouraging co-operation between professionals and opening out to new international markets. It complements San Sebastian’s existing initiatives that aim to create closer ties with Latin America, including the Co-production Forum (project stage), Horizontes Latinos (exhibition) and Films in Progress (post production).

Aimed at developing projects the event is open to feature film projects from Europe and Latin America with a minimum length of 60 minutes and 20% of their financing already assured. European projects must have a direct connection with Latin America. The festival will select a maximum of 20 projects based on the reports of three international experts.

Project heads will be able to find strategic, industrial and financial partners from all over the world to complete the funding of their projects, with the forum providing a matchmaker service.

A variety of parallel activities will be organised around the forum, including round tables, workshops and presentations.

Deadline for project registration is June 30, 2012.
