Martin Scorsese's Rolling Stones concert film Shine A Light will open the 58th Berlin International Film Festival on Feb 7 with the director and band in attendance.

Scorsese used more than 16 cameras to capture more than half a million feet of footage when his crew filmed the veteran rockers over the course of two concerts at the Beacon Theater in New York on Oct 29 and Nov 1 2006.

The film includes guest appearance from Jack White of the White Stripes, Christina Aguilera, and Buddy Guy, as well as rare archival footage and behind-the-scenes interviews behind the scenes.

Scorsese's occasional cinematographer Robert Richardson supervised an all-star camera team that included John Toll, Andrew Lesnie, Robert Elswit, Stuart Dryburgh, Emmanuel Lubezki and Ellen Kuras.

Steve Bing's Shangri-La Entertainment and long-time Stones Tour Promoter Michael Cohl's Concert Promotions International produced.

'We are extremely excited to have the world premiere of this magnificent film as our opening gala,' festival director Dieter Kosslick said. 'Martin Scorsese has captured the pure essence of an iconic band on the big screen.'

Paramount Vantage holds US theatrical rights and Kinowelt will release the film in Germany in spring 2008.
