Scott Free, the production company owned by Ridley and Tony Scott, has hired Christopher Monger to adapt Kathleen Tessaro's novel Elegance.

Published in the UK by Harper Collins, Elegance follows an American woman in London who follows the advice in an old A-Z of etiquette and style by a renowned French socialite to find fulfillment.

Monger's credits include The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain. Fox Filmed Entertainment, which has a first look deal with Scott Free for features, is financing the project, which does not yet have a director attached.

Julie Payne, managing director of Scott Free UK, and executive Samantha Thomas are overseeing Elegance for Scott Free London.

Scott Free is currently in production on four films: Man On Fire, directed by Tony Scott, which stars Denzel Washington and is due for release in the US on April 23, 2004; Tristan And Isolde, directed by Kevin Reynolds and currently in post production; Ridley Scott's Crusades epic Kingdom Of Heaven, which is currently shooting in Morocco; and Curtis Hanson's In Her Shoes, starring Cameron Diaz and currently shooting in Los Angeles.

In addition, Scott Free is producing a television pilot for CBS - with whom it has a first look deal for TV projects - and Paramount entitled Numbers.
