YooZoo acquires Second World War drama starring Andrew Garfield.

Mel Gibson

YooZoo Pictures, the film arm of gaming company Youzu Interactive, has pre-bought Chinese rights to Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge from IM Global.

Directed by Gibson, the Second World War drama tells the story of US army doctor Desmond T. Doss, who became the first conscientious objector in US history to win the Congressional Medal of Honor. Andrew Garfield plays Doss.

YooZoo Pictures recently opened an office in Los Angeles and is currently producing a $30m adaptation of Liu Cixin’s sci-fi novel The Three-Body Problem with Alibaba Pictures.

Hacksaw Ridge is produced by Bill Mechanic’s Pandemonium Films, Cross Creek Pictures and Permut Productions.

IM Global picked up international rights in January and Lionsgate/Summit will distribute in the US.

Production is scheduled to start in Australia in September.

YooZoo will have a presentation credit on the film in international territories.

Founded by CEO Lin Qi, Shenzhen-listed Youzu Interactive is a developer and publisher of online and mobile games.
