Former Paramount chairman Sherry Lansing will receive the Jean HersholtHumanitarian Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' boardof governors.

Lansing will collect the honour during the 79th Academy Awards onFeb 25, 2007. The Hersholt Award is given to an individual whose humanitarianefforts have brought credit to the industry.

'Sherry is being honoured not only for her passionate work insupport of fighting cancer but because the board recognised and remembered the longlist of charitable organisations and causes she has served, and her longhistory in serving them,' Academy president Sid Ganis said.

'Sherry has earned enormous respect throughout the industrynot only for her successful career as a producer and studio head, but because shehas never failed to further devote her enormous energy to the needs ofothers.'

Lansing was instrumental is setting up the nonprofit organisationStop Cancer and serves on its board. She also serves on the board of the Albertand Mary Lasker Foundation, and is a trustee of the American Association forCancer Research.
